Monday, May 14. Good evening from Jay's house in Paynesville, Liberia. It is 9:03 WAT. Today was a national holiday in Liberia, Unification Day. This country has too many holidays. This sentiment was shared with me by both Calvin and Jay.
For this Unification Day, we relaxed at Jay's house in the morning. Tim, who is staying at a nearby hotel, joined us earlier than expected. He had to. The internet at his hotel was out of order. He was told someone cut the line outside the building. Africa!
Our afternoon was centered around another trip to Kakata where we would be meeting with Frances and looking at potential office spaces for a future Applied Scholastics office. Frances is a community leader and the person who did all the preliminary work to make Kakata delivery a success. Or, as Tim calls him, he's the man!

The best part of meeting with Frances was listening to Jay's vision of the upcoming Applied Scholastics project in Kakata and the effects it will have countrywide. The foundation of the project will be Study Tech and literacy but it will continue to build on increasing awareness of human rights and, most importantly to Jay, instill a strong sense of patriotism and Liberian pride into the youth of the country.
Frances' house is colorful on the inside and outside, brilliantly so. Note the royal purple couch and red walls in the shot above. And below, his purple and green exterior.
